Too often in this day and age we’re so focused on getting to the next thing, checking things off our to do-lists and being as “busy” as possible that we miss out on some of the things that make all the busy-ness worth it.
When I was leaving the office the other day, I found myself trapped in the parking lot by a not uncommon obstacle: elk. There they were taking their time lumbering through our lot, and my first reaction was annoyance at the unexpected requirement to stay put. As I sat there waiting for the elk to find their way to the next patch of grass, I was left with my thoughts. Sitting there for just a minute or two outside of my normal routine, my annoyance turned into appreciation and treasured quietness. These huge creatures were something people travel every year to see and here was an entire herd right outside of my office. This is such a good lesson to remember, especially this time of year as we enter into the holidays. In business, this can also be important; taking time to slow down, appreciate what we have, be grateful for where we are and exercise patience as we work to get where we’re going.
This Thanksgiving, we are grateful for everyone on the Martin and Wood team and for all of the progress we’ve made in helping our clients this year. We are also looking forward to all that will be accomplished in 2019. For now, let’s exercise some patience and take time to appreciate exactly where we’re at. To our clients, thank you for allowing us to serve you. We hope you have a wonderful holiday season and a happy new year.
