Winter Activities Beyond the Slopes

It’s no secret that Colorado is home to some of the world’s best skiing, but what about other winter-fun activities when you’re not up for braving the slopes (or the traffic)? The nearby towns of Evergreen and Georgetown offer some of the best frozen water activities on the front range.

Ice Skating

Evergreen Park and Recreation District operates the world’s largest Zamboni-groomed outdoor ice rink at the Evergreen Lake House. More than eight acres of ice with 10+ pond hockey rinks, this is the perfect outing for any skating skill level or hockey player. Hours and rental information can be found on the Park and Recreation website.

Ice Fishing

Georgetown Lake has trout, browns, rainbows and brooks. Secure your licenses at Black Diamond Ski & Cycle Rental and prepare for a fun day on the ice!

Ice Racing

Another frozen water activity that’s sure to get your heart racing is ice racing. Also on Georgetown Lake, ice racing is organized by Our Gang ice racing club and open to anyone with a 4WD or AWD vehicle and a valid driver’s license. The cost to spectate the events are always free.
